Quick checks
- Open the Dictozy popup and confirm the main Dictozy toggle is on.
- Confirm Enable on this site is on for the current website.
- Reload the page after installing or updating Dictozy, then focus a supported field again.
- Check that the field is not sensitive, hidden, disabled, or readonly.
- Try a short phrase in a normal textarea on an HTTPS page.
Microphone control or signal
The microphone button does not appear
Confirm the global and current-site toggles are enabled. The button appears only beside a supported, editable field. Chrome's own pages, the Chrome Web Store, browser settings, password fields, payment fields, and other excluded fields intentionally do not receive the control.
Chrome does not allow recording
Select the site information control in Chrome's address bar, review the site's microphone permission, and allow access only if you intend to dictate there. Reload the page after changing permission. Dictozy never starts recording automatically.
No microphone signal is detected
Confirm Chrome is using the intended input, the microphone is not muted, and another application is not preventing access. Speak close enough to the selected microphone, then record a new short phrase. Dictozy does not store the signal check.
Keyboard shortcut
If the popup shows Not assigned, use its keyboard control to open Chrome's extension-shortcut settings, then assign or remap the Dictozy command. The shortcut starts, stops, or cancels the same dictation lifecycle as the visible control.
A shortcut is ignored when Dictozy is disabled globally, disabled for the current site, or the focused field is unsupported.
Recording or transcription failure
Cancel and retry
Use the cancel control while transcription is pending. After a failure, use the retry state to record a fresh clip; Dictozy does not resend the previous audio. Keep the phrase short and wait for the status to finish before moving focus.
Check service availability
Open the popup, expand Advanced Backend, and use Check Backend. If the check fails, wait briefly and try again. A healthy check means the backend is reachable, but a transcription provider request can still fail.
If an error displays a short reference, keep that reference and the approximate time. Do not include the spoken text or page contents.
Supported and excluded fields
Dictozy supports text, search, email, URL, and telephone inputs; textareas; supported contenteditable fields; and ARIA textboxes that are actually editable. Some complex rich-text editors may manage selection differently from standard fields.
Dictozy intentionally ignores password, payment, hidden, disabled, readonly, file, checkbox, and radio fields, plus bare non-editable ARIA textboxes. It also does not run on restricted Chrome pages.
Report a problem safely
Open the published Dictozy Chrome Web Store listing and use the support option shown there. Chrome may require you to sign in before submitting feedback.
Helpful, non-sensitive details include:
- Chrome version, operating system, and Dictozy version from
chrome://extensions. - Whether Dictozy came from the Chrome Web Store or was loaded unpacked.
- The general kind of field involved and the steps that led to the issue.
- A safe screenshot of Dictozy's status, an approximate time, and any short error reference.
Never submit raw audio, transcript text, passwords, payment data, API keys, private page content, existing field contents, or browser storage dumps.
Common questions
Dictozy FAQ
Where does Dictozy work?
On supported editable fields on Chrome HTTPS pages. Restricted browser pages and excluded field types are intentionally unsupported.
Does recording start automatically?
No. Recording begins only after you click the visible microphone button or press your assigned browser shortcut.
Is audio or transcript history stored?
The extension and backend application do not intentionally persist raw audio or transcripts, and Dictozy does not provide transcript history. Service providers may retain operational data under their policies.
Does Dictozy work offline?
No. It needs an internet connection and an available backend because speech-to-text processing occurs through the backend and its provider.
Why might the microphone button not appear?
Dictozy may be disabled globally or for that site, the page may need reloading, or the focused field or page may be intentionally unsupported.
What does language formatting change?
An explicit language guides provider formatting for items such as numbers, currencies, and units. It is a formatting hint, not a promise of better recognition.
Can Dictozy be disabled on one site?
Yes. Turn off Enable on this site in the popup. Dictozy stores only exact origins you explicitly disable in local Chrome extension storage.
Is an account required?
No. Dictozy does not require a user account.
